Taylor Swift spilled the tea about how a case of mistaken identity occurred during her Eras Tour brought her to her fiance, Travis Kelseymeeting Greta Gerwig…eventually.
While I was visiting Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday to promote his record-breaking album. The life of a dancer Swift recalled how Kelsey met a slew of celebrities in the VIP tent during her trip to London last year. Swift said that after Kelsey gushed about hanging out with Hugh Grant, his wife Anne Eberstein, Tom Cruise, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and others, she noticed he hadn't yet mentioned Gerwig, the Kansas City Chiefs player's “favorite director.”
Kelsey then said that he told Barbie director made an “I'm Just Ken” joke that didn't seem to go over well, which puzzled Swift, who initially chalked up the awkward encounter to Gerwig having heard the joke too many times. Continuing to talk about the evening, Kelsey mentioned how Gerwig and Grant danced together throughout the show, exchanged all these “inside jokes” and seemed like “soulmates.” Swift understandably reacted at the time, exclaiming: “Tea is crazy today, Travis!”
However, soon after, videos of Kelsea dancing with Gerwig began surfacing online, prompting Swift to “do the math.” When the pop star showed Kelsey the video and he responded, “That's not Greta,” it clicked: He mistook Grant's wife for famous director.
“The bad news for you is that he has face blindness,” Meyers concluded after Swift told her story. “The good news is that he can recognize true love. So at least he saw his soulmates.”
This night turned out to be memorable for Grant, who wrote a note about X for Swift It said: “Dear @taylorswift13, you have an incredible show, an amazing and welcoming crew and an excellent albeit giant guy (#tequilashots). Many thanks from one aging London boy, wife and excited 8 year old #halfgirlhalfbracelet.”
