Tara Reid warned fans after an evening of drinks and cigarettes at a hotel bar ended with her being hospitalized over the weekend: “You have to be very careful with your drink.”
The “American Pie” and “Big Lebowski” actress was admitted to a Chicago hospital early Sunday after drinking a glass of wine that she claims was laced with additives. She spoke about her visit to the hospital and recalled the chain of previous events in an interview with the publication TMZ.
A representative for Reed did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment Tuesday.
On Monday, the 50-year-old actress told TMZ hosts Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere that she ordered a drink at a hotel bar (she did not name the hotel) and left to smoke a cigarette outdoors. Upon returning to the bar, Reed said she saw a napkin placed on top of her drink. Although she found it strange, she continued drinking.
“Before I knew it, eight hours later I was in the hospital,” she said.
TMZ published eyewitness video of the incident at the hotel, in which several people put Reed in a wheelchair. She can be heard slurring her words and moving her hands uncontrollably. Another video shows her on a stretcher as medical staff escort her out of a hotel lobby.
Reed told Levine and Latibeaudiere that doctors said she was drugged but did not provide additional information about her stay, including whether they tested for any specific substances. “It was all kind of vague,” she said, “it was all very vague.”
Reed added that she was unaware of the treatment or tests she was undergoing because she was unconscious.
Following the incident and her hospitalization, the Van Wilder and Sharknado actor said she and her agent went to a fansite and then went home. She was scheduled to appear at the Chicago Sports Spectacular. Sunday.
She said the incident was a “big blur.”
Reed came forward to say she was grateful she was in a public place when she passed out and expressed concern about being sexually assaulted if she had ended up in a private place instead.
“I don’t know what that thing was, but whatever it was, it knocked me out right away,” she said.
Actor's representative confirmed toe! that she has filed a police report about the incident and is cooperating with authorities.
“Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this difficult time,” the rep said in a statement released to E! “She also urges everyone to be careful, keep an eye on their drinks and never leave them unattended as this can happen to anyone. She will not be making any further comment at this stage.”
