Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada and Latin America). 357 107 units sold through September 2025, VGChartz estimates. Over the entire sales period, Switch 2 sold 3.21 million units.
The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console, selling approximately 225,618 units, bringing total sales to 31.81 million units. Xbox Series X|S came in third with 87,793 units sold, bringing its lifetime sales to 20.50 million units. The Nintendo Switch was the fourth best-selling console, selling approximately 66,846 units, bringing lifetime sales to 57.24 million units.
Switch 2 sales were up nearly 108,000 units from Switch 1's fourth month in 2017, as Switch 1 sold 249,278 units in the Americas in June 2017.
PS5 sales compared to the same month for PS4 in 2018 were down more than 221,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales were down more than 175,000 units compared to the same month for Xbox One. During September 2018, the PS4 sold 446,729 units, while the Xbox One sold 263,105 units.
PlayStation 5 sales decreased by 132,199 (-37.0%) compared to the same month last year. Xbox Series X|S sales fell by 89,596 units (-50.5%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales fell by 154,469 units (-69.8%).
Looking at month-over-month sales, Nintendo Switch 2 sales fell by more than 14,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales rose by more than 22,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales rose by more than 16,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales fell by more than 12,000 units.
As of 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.21 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold approximately 2.67 million units, the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.09 million units, and the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 0.99 million units.

Methodology of V.G. Charts: Equipment estimates are based on a sample of retail sales and trends in individual countries, which are then extrapolated to represent the wider region. This usually allows us to get numbers that end up within 10% of the actual totals.
This data is regularly compared with official shipment figures published by console manufacturers and figures estimated by regional trackers with broader market coverage than us. We then update our own estimates to match these figures. This can result in frequent changes over a short period of time, but we believe it is important to prioritize accuracy over consistency.
Note that our estimates are based on sell-through data (units sold to consumers). In almost all cases, the numbers released by console manufacturers are based on shipment (sales) data, where once a device leaves the factory and enters the supply chain for delivery, it is considered a sale. This is why there is always a difference between company performance (sell-through) and VGChartz estimates (sell-through), even after we have made adjustments. The only exception is if the console is discontinued and the remaining stock is completely sold out – at which point the numbers will match.
