Switch 2 Hits 2.4 Million Sales in Its First Three Months in the US

Huge win for Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 made an impressive debut in the US, with strong sales figures highlighting its early success. The hybrid console sold 2.4 million units in its first three months on the market, from June to August, according to industry analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana. These figures put the system five percent ahead of the PlayStation 4's previous record of 2.2 million units sold during the same launch period in 2014.

Piscatella noted that strong sales of the Switch 2 helped offset declining sales of competing consoles, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the original Nintendo Switch. In fact, the new system is a significant improvement over its predecessor, with sales 77 percent higher than the original Switch.

Global numbers from Nintendo's August financial report further highlighted the device's success. Within seven weeks of launch, Switch 2 hardware sales have exceeded six million units worldwide, with a detailed breakdown by region. These numbers confirm the console's early success and its high reception among gamers.

On the software side, Donkey Kong Bananza was among the best-selling games in the United States in August, ranking seventh, down slightly from third place in the previous month. This ranking does not include digital sales, which may further impact the game's overall performance.

With these numbers, the Switch 2 has clearly established itself as a formidable contender in the current console market, demonstrating both strong consumer interest and an impressive early adoption rate. Nintendo's hybrid strategy appears to be paying off, positioning the Switch 2 for continued success in the months ahead.
