Swing Voters Have Some Bad News for Dems With Blowback Over Shutdown – RedState

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) hoped to hurt President Donald Trump and Republicans with his shutdown. But instead, Schumer angered the left, some of whom thought he had given up and walked away empty-handed after more than 40 days of ridiculous posturing.

Now there is more evidence that the shutdown could hit back at Democrats.

In Georgia, swing voters in Engagious/Sago focus groups said that it was not good As for the Democrats, they came out of the fight looking worse than the Republicans. The focus group included people who voted for Joe Biden in 2020 and Trump in 2024.

Seven of the 13 swing voters in their groups said Democrats came out of the shutdown worse than Republicans. Two said Republicans look worse, and four said both parties look equally bad.

“What was that for?” said Christine L., 54, of Peachtree City. “It really makes them look bad.”

“They always claim to be the party of the people they care about, the disenfranchised, the people living in poverty… but their actions contradict that, they don't care,” said Elijah T., 33, of Conyers.

“Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries got the hell out of it and spent 41 days dragging their feet before eight Democrats finally decided enough was enough,” said Brian B., 61, of Norcross.

“Democrats have given undecided voters who already hold the party extremely low another reason to distrust them,” said Rich Thau, party president. Attractivewho moderated the focus groups.

Eight of the 13 who sided with Trump continued to express general approval of Trump's actions. The five who had problems were concerned about things like inflation, high food prices and immigration law. This shows that Trump is still going strong, but it is a sign that Trump and the Republicans could do more to show how these problems are being addressed better.

Asked what lessons Republicans should learn from the defeats, they advised spending more money in races against Democrats, appealing more to the political center, “not resting on your laurels” and “taking a clearer stance on what's going on and what people want to do.”

Their advice to Democrats: “Don’t worry,” “keep your promises.” One voter noted that “midterm elections are never determined by these special elections.”

The Democrats seem to be not only wasting everyone's time and causing people a lot of pain with the shutdown, but they are doing everything they can to not follow that advice by supporting socialists from New York to Seattle. Plus, they're attacking each other, Schumer might get the boot, and it looks like the left is going to attack him and others.

Beware, Democrats: After the shutdown deal, AOC is going to do more than just Schumer

So while Republicans shouldn't rest on their laurels and need to focus on the economy for the next election, this is another sign that Democrats have failed in their shutdown strategy and are facing some real challenges in the midterm elections.
