Suspect in custody after man found dead in Clovis parking lot, police say

Clovis police say a suspect is in custody after a man was found dead in a parking lot early Thursday morning.

The officer was conducting routine patrol in the Ashlan and Villa area when he came across the body in the parking lot just before 3:30 a.m.

According to investigators, the body is a middle-aged man, but his identity has not been established.

Sergeant Abby Padgett with the Clovis Police Department says a vehicle at the scene may be involved in the crime.

“We found one vehicle at the scene that appears to be connected to this incident. He was transported back to our police department for further processing,” said Sgt. Padgett.

There are several stores, a Starbucks and the Fresno County Department of Human Services building around the scene.

Several employees who showed up for work told Action News they were in disbelief.

“It's usually pretty quiet and peaceful, with nothing going on except people working. There are homeless people walking through the parking lot from time to time, but nothing serious,” Robert Sandoval said.

Padgett says this was an isolated incident and the second homicide investigation of the year.

“We are going to do everything we can to solve this incident. Hopefully we can bring some closure to the family and the community,” Sgt. Padgett said.

No other details about the detained suspect have been released.

This is the second homicide of the year in Clovis.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Clovis Police Department.
