Police in Surrey, British Columbia say a nine-year-old child was hit by a vehicle. collision Friday is dead.
In a statement released Sunday morning, Surrey Police Service said the child died after being struck by what police say was a large box van-style vehicle.

The crash investigation is ongoing and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators, the release said.
Officials say they don't believe the worsening situation played a decisive role.
The collision on Friday happened at around 2.35pm near a primary school in the Newton area of ​​Surrey. Police say the child was rescued at a local hospital after being pronounced dead Sunday morning.
