Surprise Twist: Apple’s Next iPhones Might Come in These 3 Unlikely Colors

From space orange to coffee brown? Brown, purple and burgundy will be available colors for the iPhone 18 Pro next September if the leak from China is confirmed.

Depending on your translator, brown may simply mean “brown” or “coffee brown,” but you get the general idea. Juicy information comes from an ordinary insider Digital Chat Station Message on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. The report also states that black color will not be available for the iPhone 18 Pro.

An Apple spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

iPhone 17 The Pro comes in Space Orange, Navy Blue and Silver.

Apple's iPhone 18 series release schedule is moving forward, but latest information reports that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Fold will be released in September 2026. iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e will be released in spring 2027.

If the Digital Chat Station leak is correct, the iPhone 18 Pro will be the first Pro version in years without a color resembling black, white or silver.

Here colors for iPhone Pro since its introduction in 2019:

2019: iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max: Midnight Green, Space Grey, Silver, Gold.
2020: iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max: Graphite, Silver, Gold, Pacific Blue.
2021: iPhone 13 Pro/13 Pro Max: Graphite, Gold, Silver, Sierra Blue, Alpine Green (March 2022)
2022: iPhone 14 Pro/14 Pro Max: Space Black, Silver, Gold, Dark Purple.
2023: iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max: black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, natural titanium.
2024: iPhone 16 Pro/16 Pro Max: Black Titanium, Natural Titanium, White Titanium, Desert Titanium.
2025: iPhone 17 Pro/17 Pro Max: space orange, dark blue, silver.

Not offering any black version for the Pro models may seem counterintuitive since the black titanium version of the iPhone 16 Pro Max was a big sellerand blacks have was also popular with iPhone 17 buyers. But black is missing did not hurt iPhone 17 Pro sales.

How does Apple choose iPhone colors?

Apple doesn't have publicly available documentation about how it chooses iPhone colors. Still, A video interview with Apple Vice President of iPhone Marketing Kayann Han Drance by Jessica Naziri, tech content creator at techsesh.cosheds some light on this process.

Drance said some of the factors design teams consider are the design of the phone itself, how it will look in certain colors, how the phone's materials take on color and what Apple wants to express in this year's lineup.

“The iPhone 17 Pro, for example, are the next level of Pro phones with unparalleled performance and capabilities, and we thought the space orange color really helped with that,” Drance says in the video. “There's navy and silver if that's more what you're looking for, but we just love the way those three colors work together. We think they represent the professionals very well.”
