«Sur le chemin des incendies»: la tournée qui a pris Paul Piché par surprise

Even if On the path of fires remains one of his most important albums, Paul Pichet did not think that a show in which he repeated all the songs, in addition to telling stories and anecdotes, could have a long life.

He was in the field.

“To my great surprise, everyone loved it,” he notes.

Creator of eternal hits Staircase, Happy Spring etc. Nothing special in the sky at night will therefore end the tour on the 35th.e album anniversary, November 2 and 8, in Montreal and Quebec City, five years after the show's first virtual performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I was thinking of making ten”

The show was originally the idea of Nicolas Houle, a programmer at the Palais Montcalm in Quebec. Like several others, the concert Paul Piche was scheduled to give there was canceled due to health regulations imposed by the Quebec government.

“We didn't really know what to do. They said we were going to do it virtually, and he gave me the idea to talk about the album. On the path of fires. The idea seemed interesting to me,” recalls the 72-year-old artist, who gave this performance in front of cameras and in an empty hall on November 27, 2020.

He's not the only one who finds this idea interesting. When audiences were allowed back into theaters, TV presenters asked him to do it again.

“They found that 35e album could be an opportunity to do that. I didn't want to be honest before, but I finally agreed to do something. In the end, it didn't stop. I thought I'd do ten, but I don't know how many we've reached anymore. We entered the game. We liked it.”

Special guests

To clearly highlight the end of this show, which allowed the public to reconnect with an album filled with such treasures as I'm calling on my skin etc. Sand castlePaul Pichet handed out invitations.

They were received by Claude Meunier, Vincent Valliere and Sarah Dufour. Why them? “Because they are friends. And that's simple,” answers Paul Pichet, who has emphasized the unwavering support of his audience throughout the tour.

“This show is very different from the ones we've always done. We talk a little about history. We compare the time of the album (1988) to today. We talk about creativity. It's cliche, but it's a great meeting.”

  • Paul Pichet will appear on the stage of the Place des Arts in Montreal on November 2 and at the Grand Théâtre du Québec on November 8.
