It's almost time. first trailer for Supergirl about to be released until the end of this week, and if it wasn't already obvious, I'm incredibly excited about its arrival.
From the DC Universe (DKU) adapted from—or at least inspired by—the graphic novel series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, those of us who have read it will know what to expect from Supergirl. So, it's likely that the upcoming teaser won't have any major surprises for fans of the graphic novel series.
However, there are certain things that DCU Chapter One The film's first trailer should be included to further whet our appetite. Here are three things I want to see in this teaser and one I don't.
1. A Better Understanding of Millie Alcock's View of Kara Zor-El
Since then Millie Alcock has won the race to play Supergirl in the DCU.I was excited and intrigued to see how she would handle one of the most complex characters DC Comics has created.
We've already gotten a glimpse of this 2025 version of the character. Superman movie. However, despite the fact that Alcock's cameo role in the film Superman was everything I need to be completely confident in Supergirlnext big screen releaseit was just a glance at her.
Considering that most viewers haven't read 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow', some objected to her being portrayed as an alcohol-loving party girl. Some have even suggested that this is another outdated example of how female superheroes/characters have been portrayed in films for decades.
However, the reality is that this is only one side of how Kara is presented in Woman of Tomorrow. Without going into too much detail about the comic series, she is a multi-faceted character who is not only just as altruistic as her Kryptonian cousin, but is also more interesting due to her traumatic past and rough personality.
Despite her tender years, Alcock has shown that she has the screen presence and acting talent to play captivating, multi-dimensional characters. House of the Dragon, sirensAnd Vertical these are just three examples that prove this. So for now I'm hoping SupergirlThe first teaser, like Woman of Tomorrow, is full of subversive subtext, thrilling action, thrilling melodrama and gorgeous sci-fi visuals. I also expect it to give us a better idea of Alcock's take on the protagonist.
2. Show us Jason Momoa's Lobo.
We know that Jason Momoa, who played Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), will achieve his lifelong goal of playing Lobo in a DC live-action project after landing the role of the fan-favorite mercenary in Supergirl. (You can read more about this character and all the others who will appear in my Supergirl cast and character guide.)
However, it is unclear how he will fit into this story. After all, Lobo was originally slated to play a small but important role in Woman of Tomorrow, and its screenwriter Tom King confirmed this in February 2023 during a conversation with comics.com. However, Lobo was dropped after editors Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich told King to write him out of the story.
Given Lobo will appear in one of the most exciting events of 2026. new filmshow will he take into account Supergirlstory? And how might its inclusion change the graphic novel's narrative?
Speaking in June, DCU co-head James Gunn said Lobo will play a vital roleadding: “[Supergirl:] “Woman of Tomorrow” is a collection of small stories, and we needed to create one cross-cutting, one three-act, more traditional story. And Lobo helps us with this.”
I'd be surprised if we found out how Lobo fits in SupergirlThis teaser features a slightly reworked story. However, it would be nice to see Momoa in the classic Lobo costume and traditional albino bounty hunter look.
3. Give us a general overview of the story…
The story summary of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is not confusing. I'll refrain from spelling it out here – those of you who want to know more should read the story section of my dedicated Supergirl guide.
While I don't foresee the teaser being too heavy on plot details, it would be a smart move to give people some idea of what to expect. Of course, the teaser should not reveal anything significant about the film's plot synopsis – SupermanThe first trailer certainly didn't do that when it took off last December.
However, DC Studios' next feature film is based on a specific graphic novel. So, unless Gunn and company want people to seek out more information about the story and potentially face major spoilers (more on that in a moment), it would be better to include some plot details in the trailer.
4. …but stay away from spoilers
I'll start by saying that the probability that SupergirlThe teaser will be accompanied by huge plot spoilers.
However, there are some incredibly important moments that happen early on in Women of Tomorrow. In fact, one of the most important talking points in a work of literature – don't worry, I won't say it's here – actually happens in Chapters 1 and 2 of the eight-part series.
Thanks to a magical process known as editing, the first trailer for a superhero movie will make it easy to avoid this and other important story moments. However, it's in Gunn and company's best interest to hold off on the comic book series' biggest surprises until after the movie hits theaters. There will be enough to discuss SupergirlAn official teaser will be released in the coming days and weeks as we take a closer look at the first images of the film without including any plot spoilers. So please don't ruin them ahead of time.
