Suni, 22 years old, said Marie Claire Before the show, she stepped outside her “comfort zone” by walking down the runway. “When I was growing up, I didn't see a lot of girls who looked like me in places like this. Now to be here as an athlete, as someone who worked so hard to achieve her dreams, it's very powerful,” she shared. “I want young girls to know that they don't have to fit into one box. You can chase Olympic gold and still maintain your femininity.”
Although Suni looked incredible as she walked the runway, she seemed to face some criticism for her VS debut. Taking to TikTokThe gymnast shared a video of herself lip-syncing to the following lyrics from Ariana Grande's song “Successful”: “Yeah, it feels so good to be so young, having fun and being successful, yeah / I'm so successful.” In the caption, she wrote: “Can you guys stop making fun of me?”
Suni liked a lot of comments where people criticized her appearance on VS. “Imagine you're talking about someone who was in a fashion show,” one read, while another said: “You were on the runway and he was angry and at HOME.”
Suni then responded to a comment questioning why people bully her for her height. For context: gymnast 5 feet 0 inches tall.
“Girl I got your back. Why do people bully you for your height💔like you can't control it bro😭🙏,” someone wrote, to which Suni replied, “Literally.”
Ming Lee Simmons – daughter of Kimora Lee Simmons – also said in the comments: “Who's kidding you?! I won’t allow this,” which Suni liked.
Suni later thanked her fans for their support, writing, “I love you all😭🥹 my girls 🤍🤍.”
