Street Fight Breaks Out at Annual Nantucket Christmas Celebration

Santa's job of determining who was naughty or nice at Nantucket Island's Christmas celebrations was made even more prominent by a street fight that broke out in the upscale Massachusetts enclave among some of the people who arrived upon arrival.

Video of the melee that took place last Saturday on Federal Street during Nantucket's 51st Christmas Walk, where the highlight of the event is Santa's arrival at the island's pier, was published this week by the Nantucket Current newspaper.

Local news site reported that this event attracts thousands of people to the island every year. But this year's visitors included a group of well-dressed men ranging in age from 20 to 60 who were shown on video arguing and shoving each other in the street.

The conflict appears to escalate when someone throws a punch and another jumps on the other person's back, and a fight breaks out with several people throwing haymakers at each other.

People near the camera that captured the fight repeat: “Oh, God!” shocked by what they saw at the event, which is supposed to bring “good news of love and joy.”

According to local reports, Nantucket Police Department officers responded to the scene of the fight, but no arrests were made and those involved in the fight declined to press charges.

It is unclear what the dispute was about that caused the Christmas uproar.
