Say that about the first three nights of 2025-26. NBA season: Absolutely sucks that it's federal gamble a probe seemingly fell from the sky to overshadow what had been one of the brightest starts to a season you could imagine.
At first Rockets And Thunder I'll go to double overtime on Tuesday. Then Pacers Take on the Thunder again on Thursday in double overtime. OKC, thanks to incredible defense from Houston and a career-high 55 points Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Indiana, both won, and both times it was Golden State Warriors At the end of the national television program, 12 quarters of an OKC basketball game awaits the end.
On opening night, the Warriors gave up Lakers despite Luka Doncic's 43 points. They confirmed this with a statement on Thursday. 137-131 victory in overtime over Denver Nuggetswhich he led Aaron Gordonan incredible score of 50 points.
Gordon, a 33% career 3-point shooter who came out of nowhere and shot 44% last season, showed that may not have been an anomaly as he made 10 of 11 3-pointers and 17 of 21 field goals overall. How the hell could the Nuggets lose a game where Gordon, Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray a total of 96 points?
I'll tell you how. His name is Stephen Curry.
If you're looking for signs that Curry has slipped, even slightly, in his 17th season at age 37, you better get yourself a damn powerful microscope. The guy scored 42 points, 35 of which came in the second half and overtime, and six 3-pointers, single-handedly leading Golden State with 16 straight points in a six-minute streak that spanned the end of the fourth quarter and the start of overtime.
From the 2:42 mark of the fourth quarter, Curry single-handedly led the Nuggets 18-15. Several times the Nuggets looked like they were going to put the game away, but Curry simply didn't let that happen. With less than two minutes left in regulation and the Warriors down three, he did the following:
With 25 seconds left, with the Warriors down three again, he did the following:
He started overtime with three more goals and sealed the deal with a basket and a pair of free throws in the final 25 seconds of overtime, pushing the Warriors' lead to 2-0 with the question: “What the hell did I just watch?” a performance that only he can pull off.
What's crazy is that Curry only scored seven points at halftime. Even at this advanced stage of a career that continues to rise to one of the top five players in history, he can still go from zero to 100 faster than any other player probably ever has. Still, at 37, he feels like he can wake up from his sleep and press the nuclear button whenever he wants. For fun, he had seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.
Seriously, Curry hasn't lost a single mph on his fastball. If anything, he's actually better now than ever. Perhaps not as crafty, but still one of the craftiest players around, living off his grip and ability to use the threat of his shot to gain advantage downhill, where he is as strong as ever in terms of finishing through contact.
What about shooting? Obviously it's still there. As does his seemingly endless supply of energy, allowing him to stay on the move with the entire defense chasing him for as long as it takes to strike and ultimately win. This guy is out of this world. I know I'm not breaking any news with this statement, but damn. What a great pleasure it is to still watch him do it after all these years, and also to know that he is far from finished.
