On Wednesday night, left-wing TV hosts were ecstatic about New York's socialist mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's re-election victory.
The evening's hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert applauded after the Muslim socialist won the mayor's office, and Kimmel was happy to say Mamdani's election was a blow to President Donald Trump. Colbert was delighted that Mamdani's victory was a slap in the face to the “billionaires.”
During it Jimmy Kimmel Live! In his monologue, Kimmel said that the victory of a far-left candidate made Donald Trump a loser.
“Everything he touched was a failure,” Kimmel gleefully exclaimed. “Trump hasn't been this embarrassed since he found out Donald Trump Jr. existed. But don't worry, if you're tired of all the defeats, don't be afraid. He has an excuse. In fact, he has two.”
Kimmel grilled Trump for his “Social Truth” post in which the president noted that he was not on the ballot and the ongoing government shutdown was one of the reasons GOP candidates and their supporters did poorly on Tuesday.
“Now, if the Republicans had won and he wasn't on the ballot,” Kimmel quipped, “would he have taken credit for it? Oh, yeah, he definitely would have. But he lost. And then he posted this… 'And Here It Comes,' which was either a response to Mamdani winning the mayoral election or he just sat on the toilet.”
The ABC host also criticized Republicans for their focus on election fraud.
“It's weird that it's just cheating when they lose, right? I mean, what are the odds?” Kimmel laughed. “It was a tough night for the vice president personally,” said J.D. Vance’s half-brother, W.D. Vance. [real name Cory Bowman]lost his bid for mayor of Cincinnati. And I didn't even know J.D. Vance had a half-brother, but he does. And although he had JD's support, he lost by more than 56 points.”
For his part, CBS host Stephen Colbert said Mamdani's victory is a blow to the rich and a blow to the common man.
Colbert, who recently declared that he is “more conservative than people think,” despite spending his entire entertainment career attacking conservatives, Republicans and Trump, was pleased with what he believed was the basis of Mamdani's victory.
“Mamdani didn't just beat Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. He punched the fattest cats in New York,” Colbert said. “Because if you've been following the election, billionaires have pulled knives on Zoran, pumping huge sums of money into anti-Mamdani groups. I'm talking about big, big players like cosmetics heir Ron Lauder, who donated $2.6 million to stop him. Hedge fund investor Bill Ackman, who donated $1.75 million against him. And Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, who donated $2 million to defeat him. Mamdani.”
Colbert insisted that Election Day was a “bad day for billionaires.” Although he admitted that they were all still rich.
The CBS host also rejoiced in the victories of Democrats Miki Sherrill of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia.
