It wasn't just the players from Cleveland Browns who were disappointed with the playing surface at Acresure Stadium last Sunday – some Pittsburgh Steelers have complaints about their home turf.
Players from both teams reportedly expressed their “outrage” at the “embarrassing” grass field at Acresure Stadium in Pittsburgh to the NFL Players Association. via ESPN.
“The NFLPA has conveyed its concerns to the NFL and will work to ensure players do not find themselves in this position in the future,” a source told the outlet on Wednesday.
Steelers Quarterback Broderick Jones was among the players who called out the pitch, saying dry conditions were causing “pieces of grass to be thrown up” when trying to make explosive moves.

There was also a clear moment where the field was struggling with the home team when punter Chris Boswell visibly slipped on his field goal attempt and immediately began kicking the ground.

After the game, the field was scheduled to be resurfaced, but this did not stop the players from expressing their opinions.
“I thought it was bad,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Monday of the conditions on the field. “I am not worried about further developments. “It is my understanding that this turf will be replaced, but I certainly accept that it was a concern yesterday.”
Cameron Heyward, the Steelers' defensive captain, was more blunt in his assessment.
“Honestly, it was crap,” Hayward, who is also a spokesman for the NFLPA, said Tuesday via ESPN. “I lost one of my teammates and it makes me a little sad.”

Hayward is talking about special teams captain Miles Killebrew, who suffered a non-contact knee injury after hitting the turf in Sunday's win over the Browns.
“I like grass, but it’s not play grass,” Hayward said.
The NFL has repeatedly said there is no difference in injury rates between playing on grass and synthetic turf, although players like Hayward have consistently said they prefer grass when given the choice.
The Steelers share Akrizur Stadium with the team. University of Pittsburgh football program, even though neither team had played on the field the week before. The Steelers had only played one home game all season through Sunday, as they were on the road or in London before getting an early bye week.

Separating the stadium is nothing new for the stadium team, but moving forward the Steelers will be keeping a close eye on their playing surface.
They head to Thursday Night Football this week against the Cincinnati Bengals before returning home on Oct. 26 for Aaron Rodgers to face his former team, the Green Bay Packers.
