“Steam Charts don’t measure fun” – Splitgate Arena Reloaded developer responds to concerning PC launch numbers

Splitgate Arena Reloaded developer 1047 Games has shared some words about how its remastered and remastered game is doing on Valve's PC platform, saying, “Steam charts are not a measure of enjoyment.”

Splitgate Arena Reloaded began its life as Splitgate 2. However, Splitgate 2 never achieved its goal, and 1047 Games brought the game back into beta last Julywhich led to a number of layoffs at the studio. In November it was announced that Splitgate 2 will relaunch in December. A new title was then revealed – Splitgate Arena Reloaded. along with a relaunch date of December 17th..

Since its relaunch less than a month ago, many have noticed that Splitgate Arena Reloaded is still not attracting a large number of players on Steam. As our Connor reported just this week, after the restart, the initial peak number of concurrent players was 2,297. on the PC platform, before that number dropped in recent days to a relatively stable concurrent player count of around 1,000. It's unclear what its console player base is.

1047 Games has now addressed those Steam numbers, saying it's impossible to simply equate the number of players on one platform with the amount of fun being had. “They show one number, on one platform, at a certain moment,” the Splitgate Arena Reloaded team said.

“They don't show the full picture or what it's actually like to play, and they definitely don't capture the community that actively helps shape what Arena Reloaded becomes (including upcoming content like Arena Royale).”

Continuing, the developer said, “Over the past six months, we have rebuilt Splitgate from the ground up because we believe in the game, our team, and our community. The 1047 team remains committed to creating the best version of Splitgate possible.”

He went on to thank the Splitgate player community for their enthusiasm and feedback, and concluded by encouraging others to try the game and “form their own opinions” about the reboot. “For anyone who hasn't played yet, Arena Reloaded is free, the gameplay is the best it's ever been… A lot of passionate people have worked really hard on it.”

Splitgate Arena Reloaded is hosting a number of competitive events to drum up interest. This includes a $5,000 tournament for Splitgate content creators, as well as a $25,000 community competition. There will also be a welcome event where players can get the T200 character skin, a popular relic from the original Splitgate.
