Starfield design director Emil Pagliarulo says making a space RPG was a “crazy idea” given that Bethesda had “never made a space simulator” and that's why the developers had to do it.
In a conversation with GamesRadar+ about the legacy of Fallout 4, we talk about how ambitious Bethesda's plans for the role-playing game were – even by today's standards. For Pagliarulo, big change like this is what Bethesda is all about.
Using Fallout 4 to illustrate Bethesda's approach to creation, Pagliarulo says developers don't think about what the industry will look like in 10 years, how the game might be received, or how many people will end up playing what you make. “When you think, 'Oh my God, there are literally millions of people going to play this,' it's paralyzing,” he says. So the best thing you can do is “go into your creative space” and “just try to make the most fun game you can.”

Since launch, however, the space RPG has undoubtedly been more controversial than Fallout 4. fans are still waiting with bated breath see what happens next – according to some sourcesthis could also be something quite significant.
