Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was one of the biggest announcements ever made Gaming Awards 2025and it's not hard to see why it is a “spiritual successor” and not a “direct sequel” one of the best Star Wars games ever made, led by Knights of the Old Republic and the original director of the Mass Effect trilogy, Casey Hudson.
But Bloomberg's Jason Schreier noted:Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, meaning 2030 is an *optimistic* estimate,” on the site social media. “Maybe it will be a PlayStation 7 game.”
After talk of a potentially distant release date for Fate of the Old Republic circled online, Casey Hudson himself rushed to brush off the rumors, saying the game would release before 2030. “Don’t worry about the ‘not until 2030’ rumors,” he said. tweeted recently. “The game will be released earlier. I'm not getting any younger!
“Fate of the Old Republic represents an opportunity to explore a modern vision of the definitive Star Wars experience,” Hudson explained after the game's presentation, “using state-of-the-art technology and game design, and an all-new story created specifically to combine player agency with the Star Wars immersion that was at the core of KOTOR.” FOTOR comes from the newly formed Arcanaut Studios, where Hudson serves as CEO.
There are currently no details about the release timeline for Fate of the Republic, other than the fact that it is in early development or what platforms it might release on.
The trailer for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic “echoes Knights of the Old Republic” almost two decades later, says the Mass Effect boss, and the beloved RPG “was the reason I came to BioWare.”
