Two decades after its release Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic IIThe new project, described as the “spiritual successor” to the seminal role-playing game series, was announced at The Game Awards on Thursday night. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will be a collaboration between Lucasfilm Games and Arcanaut Studios, a new development studio launched by the original KOTOR directed by Casey Hudson.
Hudson, who will direct the new game, said: in an interview with StarWars.com that he has been in contact with Lucasfilm since KOTOR days in hopes of collaborating again in the Star Wars universe. “It took the right conditions for things to work out,” he told the site.
Call KOTOR “One of the defining events of my career,” Hudson said he wanted to “explore a modern vision” of the Star Wars universe and “realize the combination of player agency and Star Wars immersion that defined the original games. As director of the upcoming game, Hudson said his role is to “gather and shape a unified vision that the entire team contributes to. Ensuring that everyone shares that vision and understands their role in creating it is critical to the success of the project.”
