Star Trek’s Starfleet Academy trailer goes big at NYCC

The new series will premiere on January 15.

The latest Star Trek series Starfleet Academygives the franchise a distinctly youthful flavor by focusing on the first class of 32nd century cadets to enroll at Starfleet Academy. IN New York Comic Con Paramount said the series will premiere on January 15th with new episodes released weekly until March 12th.

The new trailer begins with a look at the season's villain, Nus Braca, a half-Klingon, half-Tellarite character played by Paul Giamatti. He makes his sinister show, tearing the child away from his mother and urging the boy to maintain his hatred of him.

That child grows up to be Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta), a Starfleet Academy cadet recruited by Chancellor Nala Ake (Holly Hunter), who promises to help the brooding young man find his mother. He will be joined by other newcomers such as Durham Raimi (George Hawkins), who has a problem with his rich and powerful parents, and Serial Acclimatizing Mil, aka Sam (Kerris Brooks), the first hologram student to attend Starfleet Academy.

Sam quickly becomes close with Robert Picardo, reprising his role as the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager. Other returning faculty members include Jett Reno (Tig Notaro) and Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) from Star Trek: Discovery. Late Show Host and giant nerd Stephen Colbert shared a video announcing that he would be the voice of the digital dean of students at Starfleet Academy, making announcements on campus. The preview shows students enjoying school activities, traveling around campus, working out, and kissing.
