DALLAS — Stanford defender Aaron Morris was cleared for medical reasons to return to the outside line against SMU after he was subdued and taken off the field by ambulance following a tackle in the first quarter Saturday, the school said.
Morris' mask was removed as he was placed on a stretcher and then loaded into an ambulance at SMU Ford Stadium. He moved his arms and legs as medical staff began treating him on the field, and Stanford spokesman Brian Brownfield said Morris was “attentive and responsive. He's doing well.”
“Aaron Morris has passed all precautionary tests and is returning to be with the team for the completion of the SMU game,” the school said in a statement issued early in the second half.
Morris and halfback Sam Mattingly closed Jordan Hudson from opposite ends after an SMU wide receiver caught the ball from 12 yards out with five minutes left in the first quarter. Morris was the first to make contact before Mattingly got ahead of Morris and Hudson.
Morris is a junior from Lowell, Massachusetts. He played in the fourth of Stanford's six games this season after playing 17 in his first two years.
SMU won Saturday's game. 34-10.
