10. Sure, Amanda's Los Angeles home is gorgeous, but Iris's sweet country cottage was a real show-stopper among the crew. After finding a charming house, the producers decided to build their own to be closer to London.
Calling Meyers a “perfectionist,” Lowe explained during November 2024 appearance on BBC radio 2nd Zoe Ball's Breakfast Show“She drove all over the area and couldn't find the chocolate box house she was looking for. So she just rented a field, painted it and had someone build it.”
The production team created Rosehill Cottage in just two weeks, with Meyers saying in the DVD, “We built this wall and planted these trees. In reality it was just an empty field. It was a real tourist attraction while it was there.”
Unfortunately, after filming, the building was demolished and all interior scenes were filmed on a sound stage in Culver City, California. So Meyers instructed her cameraman Dean Cundey do not take general shots inside the cottage to make it seem small and cozy.
11. According to Lowe, one of the most iconic moments of the film is Lowe's “Mr. Nupkinhead” performance, in which much of the scene is improvised. Miffy Englefieldwho beat out more than 2,500 actresses to play Graham's daughter, Sophie. Englefield revealed Vulture that Lowe coined the line about smoking being bad for you, and Englefield sincerely told Diaz that the line was “so funny you'll fall out of your chair.”
