After some public mistakes and unprecedented return to betaSplitgate hopes to return under a new name. At the PC Games Show, 1047 Games announced that Splitgate 2 will return on December 17th as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, with major gameplay and progression changes designed to bring the shooter closer to its roots.
According to 1047 Games design director Josh Watson, the studio was rebuilding the game “from the ground up,” incorporating and refining the best elements from both Splitgate games while “removing what didn't work.” In the video announcement, Watson specifically cited Unreal Tournament, Quake, and Halo as major inspirations for Splitgate.
Due to this, the rebooted Splitgate will not feature the factions and abilities introduced in Splitgate 2, allowing for more “classic arena combat”. Arena Reloaded also features redesigned progression and rank systems, as well as reduced prices in game stores; Splitgate 2's microtransactions were a major issue for players when the game first launched.
Additionally, Splitgate: Arena Unloaded adds five new maps, six “completely redesigned” maps, three new primary weapons, and a railgun power weapon. 1047 Games emphasizes that all new additions are based on community feedback received through public testing.
Last month, 1047 Games announced that Splitgate 2 Beta Ends December 4thafter which the game disconnects from the network before restarting. Like Splitgate 2, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded will be free for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Splitgate 2 first launched as an open beta in May, with a full release in June. Following a public outcry that saw 1047 Games sport the slogan “Make FPS Great Again” at Summer Game Fest, along with complaints about microtransactions and developer layoffsthe game returned to beta in July.
