Splatoon Raiders is also on the way
Platoon 3 has now received a PEGI rating for Nintendo Switch 2 from the European Commission, following a similar listing received earlier this week for Pikmin 3 Deluxe. This update shows that Nintendo continues to formalize Switch 2 support for its core games.
PEGI added the Switch 2 version of Splatoon 3 to its database on December 31, 2025. This listing now appears alongside the original Nintendo Switch version, both of which were introduced by Nintendo of Europe SE. While the ranking may come as a surprise to some fans, Nintendo already released a free Switch 2 update for Splatoon 3 last June that improved resolution and increased frame rates on the new hardware.
Nintendo originally released Splatoon 3 on Nintendo Switch in 2022. Since then, the game has remained one of the company's most actively supported multiplayer titles. Nintendo regularly released updates that added new content, improved gameplay balance, and kept the online community active. The last update appeared in September 2025.
By giving the Switch 2 an official rating, Nintendo is clearly separating the enhanced version from the original version as the new system gains traction. While Nintendo hasn't announced any additional features associated with this ranking, this listing confirms the company's commitment to supporting Splatoon 3 across all generations of hardware.
The Splatoon franchise will expand with Splatoon Raiders, a new spin-off set for release in 2026. Unlike the main series entries, this upcoming game will focus on a single-player story-based experience, offering a new direction for the long-running series.
