If there's one thing that left fans hungry after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseAside from the third film, this was more of Daniel Kaluuya's brilliant take on Spider-Punk, aka Hobie Brown. The laid-back Londoner, who was bent on disrupting the establishment, stole the show, making it clear why the Oscar winner was keen to explore the character further in a standalone story about a web-slinger in a worn and torn suit.
This was announced back in August. that Kaluuya will be writing a solo chapter for Hobie with the help of a co-writer Ajon Singh. The two are currently in the “final stages” of the initial project, which was helped by other Spider players.
“These Spider-Verse movies speak to me,” Kaluuya said. Deadline. “They inspired me so much. I think the filmmakers and animators are some of the best storytellers in the game. So I want to create an environment where I can grow and learn from what they know.”
Luckily, Kaluuya revealed that he had the blessing of Spider-Verse franchise producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, who offered great advice on how he could develop the characters.
Lord explained to Kaluya, “Movies aren't about people, they're about relationships.” Speaking about the pair's brilliant dynamic that helped the Spidey films become hits, the Get Out star added: “They also enjoy cinema and storytelling and animation and I think joy is so hard to come by and that's what I strive for. They love what they do and that's what the audience really feels.”
It will be interesting to see how much of a bright and shiny perspective “Spider” will bring to Kaluuya's story, which is still in its early stages. As for the third installment in the adventures of Miles Morales, we still have to wait for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to hit theaters on June 18, 2027.
