Spencer Pratt, who lost home in Palisades Fire, announces run for mayor of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — TV personality Spencer Pratt, who lost his home in the Palisades fire and has been critical for months after the city and state prepared for and responded to the fire, announced Wednesday that he is running for mayor of Los Angeles.

Speaking at a “They Let Us Burn” rally organized by the Palisades Resident Coalition to mark the fire's anniversary, Pratt, 42, reiterated his complaints about the government's handling of the fire and then earned applause from the crowd when he announced plans to run for mayor.

“Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I'm tired of waiting for someone to take real action. That’s why I’m running for mayor,” he said. “But let me be clear: this is simply not a campaign – this is a mission, and we are going to expose the system. We go into every dark corner of Los Angeles politics and sanitize the city with our light.”

“Los Angeles will be ready to film again,” he said.

In a statement, Mayor Karen Bass's campaign strategist Douglas Herman said:

“It's no surprise that ahead of the book's imminent release, the reality TV 'villain' who once staged a fake divorce to boost ratings and spent last summer spreading post-fire misinformation and disinformation to pump up his social media following has now announced he's running for mayor.”

Pratt rose to fame in 2007 when he began dating The Hills actor Heidi Montag and eventually became a series regular. The couple married the following year and have two children.

He and Montag have also appeared on shows such as I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here and the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother.
