Get ready to fly in Sparrow Warfare
Sparrow Warfare takes off again as Copenhagen studio NEON AURELIUS launches its third public playtest on Steam. This time around, the developers are bringing a generous wave of new content to their mahjong-inspired roguelike deck building system. The latest test expands the capabilities by offering newbies a clearer path to their systems.
The playtest features a full tutorial, as well as the two main playstyles from the base game: Way of Fire and Way of Song. Players can also take part in Daily Flights, which present new challenges each day through unique modifiers and shared global leaderboards. Each run offers a new strategic puzzle, encouraging experimentation and iteration.
Sparrow Warfare perfectly combines the classic rules of mahjong and deck combat. Players form sets of three tiles, either matching tiles or sequential runs, to attack, defend, and free birds trapped within the tiles themselves. Saving the Birds unlocks rewards that allow players to build and refine their deck over time, turning every decision into a meaningful tactical choice.
The main highlight of the game is the wild tile system. By freeing the birds, players gain access to powerful wild tiles, which dramatically change how tiles interact. With over 150 wild tiles and over 100 free birds, the game thrives on unexpected interactions and evolving strategies.
The full game will feature four playable characters known as Paths, each offering a different approach to combat and deckbuilding. Players progress through six biomes with unique bosses, and daily modes offer new challenges. Because each playthrough opens up new possibilities, Sparrow Warfare emphasizes creativity, adaptability, and careful planning from start to finish.
