University of Alabama at Birmingham football players took the field in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, just hours after the tragedy.
Two UAB players were allegedly stabbed to death by teammate at the team's practice facility before the game against South Florida, a university spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital.
Both are reported to be in stable condition in hospital. The names of the victims and the player in custody have not been released.
Saturday's game began at 3:00 pm ET. and USF won with a score of 48–18.

An online inmate query from the Jefferson County Jail showed that Daniel Israel Mincy, 20, was arrested by UAB campus police just after noon Saturday and is facing charges of “aggravated assault – A through M – attempted murder.” The university has not confirmed whether Mincy was involved with the player.

According to the UAB football roster, Mincy is a redshirt freshman who joined the team after one season at Kentucky.

There appeared to be concerns about whether the game would go ahead as scheduled given the incident, but a spokesperson confirmed the university had decided to play.
“We are pleased to report that the two players injured in the incident at the Football Operations building this morning are in a stable condition. Our thoughts are with them and their families as they recover. The suspect, another player, remains in custody and an investigation is ongoing,” the spokesman said.
USF quarterback Byram Brown threw for 353 yards and five touchdowns in the blowout victory. UAB led 10–7 at the end of the first quarter, but USF scored 27 unanswered points.

The highlight of Brown's day was Mudia Reuben's 60-yard pass that gave USF a 24-10 lead on the first play of the third quarter. Nikahi Davenport added 117 yards and a touchdown for USF.

UAB quarterback Jalen Kitna had 230 yards passing but was also responsible for three costly interceptions.
