South Carolina teacher charged after allegedly trying to run over baby’s father

The woman who received the Teacher of the Year award in South Carolina she's facing charges after she allegedly tried to run over her child's father in a Walmart parking lot.

Sade Delezia Nacheile Nelson, 2025 Teacher of the Year St John's High School in Charleston, South Carolina, is accused of assaulting the father of her child and his girlfriend during a custody exchange on Oct. 18, Summerville police said, Live5News reported.

Nelson, 37, allegedly hit the man and his girlfriend before trying to hit him with his car.

Surveillance video allegedly shows Nelson speeding toward his child's father, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit by a car.

Nelson charged According to the incident report, third-degree assault and battery, especially aggravated domestic violence, unlawful endangerment or injury to a child or willful abandonment of a child.

Police records show the man told officers he opened the passenger door of Nelson's car to get his son when she began repeatedly punching him, the Daily Mail reported.

He said he fell out of the car while trying to avoid being hit by her.

Nelson told police the man attacked her and their son after he opened the car door.

The Charleston County School District said Nelson has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
