Sophie Kinsella, author Confession of a shopaholic and the million-selling sequel series died Monday, her family said. She was 55 years old and was diagnosed with brain cancer.
The family said in a statement on Kinsella's Instagram account: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddie, aka Mom). She died peacefully and her last days were filled with her true love: family, music, warmth, Christmas and joy.”
“We can’t imagine what life would be like without her radiance and love for life.”
Kinsella, who also published under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, announced in April 2024 that she had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in late 2022.

“I didn't share this earlier because I wanted to make sure my kids could hear and process the news in privacy and adapt to our 'new normal,'” she said at the time.
Since 2000 with The secret world of a shopaholic's dreams(under the name Confession of a shopaholic in the USA) about a financial journalist who writes about money issues but is completely unable to cope with her own affairs, Kinsella published 10 Shopaholic novels and other fiction. Her books have sold more than 45 million copies worldwide and have been translated into dozens of languages.
First two Shopaholic the books were adapted into a 2009 film Confession of a shopaholicstarring Isla Fisher.
