Lineage developer and Guild Wars publisher NCSoft presented Steel horizon bordersMMORPG based on Sony Horizon IP, only for PC, Android and iOS, excluding PlayStation 5.
The Verge reported the news moments before the official announcement, which took place during the G-Star gaming conference in South Korea. MMO, which will be free, according to official websitefocuses on hunting mechanical beasts by teaming up or competing against other players.
Within announcement videoJan-Bart van Beek, studio director at PlayStation Guerrilla Games, said that Steel Borders is a full-fledged MMO created by NCSoft “specifically for mobile devices.” The action will take place in a region called the “Deathlands”, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico.
“You share a border with thousands of other players, sometimes working together to destroy machines, and sometimes competing with rival tribes or fighting for resources, and this combination of cooperation and competition creates moments you could never script,” said the studio director.
The video also includes a note about Sony's involvement, which states that the project is being developed and published by NCSoft, and the game, its characters, items and events are being developed and published under license from Sony Interactive Entertainment and supported by Guerrilla and PlayStation Studios.
Guerilla reports that Horizon's internal multiplayer project is still in development
Guerrilla shared this news via X (formerly Twitter)saying that the team enjoyed collaborating with NCSoft and were excited to hunt cars together in the world of Horizon. The studio then added that “at Guerrilla, we're still working hard on new ways to do this. More on this later.”
This is probably referring to a “separate online project” in the Horizon universe, which the studio mentioned in the recruitment list back in 2022. The description noted that the project featured a “new cast of characters” and a “unique, stylized look.”
Next Steel Borders” Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier reported this. bluesky that NCSoft's MMO is “different from the multiplayer Horizon game that is in development” at the studio. “This is Guerrilla’s next big project,” he said.
Last year, NCSoft went through a company restructuring and also relied on artificial intelligence tools.
