Sony taps Fast & Furious director for Helldivers movie

Fast and Furious Director Justin Lin will helm the film adaptation of the popular PlayStation game. Helldivers video games. Lin is best known for directing five vehicular action films, including the fan favorite Fast Fiveand also well received in 2016 Star Trek: Beyondthe final part of the modern film trilogy of science fiction series.

Hollywood Reporter first reported in the newsnoting that Lin would approach the material as a non-gamer. Instead, he is said to have plans to create a cast of believable characters in a world with its own mythology.

It will be interesting to see what this all means, given that Helldivers already so inspired by the films. In particular, both games rely heavily on Paul Verhoeven's performance. Starship Troopers in their depiction of jingoistic military forces fighting insect-like creatures. In the games, the appeal was to experience this satirical action with other players, so it remains to be seen how the film adaptation might differ from Starship Troopers.

The film will follow last year Helldivers 2which became a huge hit for Sony thanks in no small part to its simultaneous release on PS5 and PC. While Sony introduced (and then rescinded) some controversial PSN requirements for the game, which impacted its growing popularity.it got big hit lately thanks to the Xbox port.

Helldivers The film is also part of Sony's wider effort to adapt various gaming experiences through its PlayStation Productions division. Today, this has led to the emergence of such publications as Sony Pictures' unknown, Grand Tourism And Until dawn movies as well as HBO The Last of Us and Universal's twisted metal Series.
