Sony announced during today's PlayStation State of Play Japan event that it will release a digital edition of the PlayStation 5 exclusive to Japan, which will only be able to play Japanese games on November 21st.
The PS5 Digital Edition Only Japan will cost 55,000 yen ($357). That's a discount of 17,980 yen ($117) compared to the regular digital version of the PS5.
The PS5 Digital Standard Edition currently costs ¥72,980 ($473), as the price has increased slightly since its initial launch in November 2020. The price started at ¥39,980 ($259) in Japan, then rose to ¥59,980 ($389) and then again last year to ¥72,980 ($473).
The Japan-only PS5 Digital Edition comes with an 825GB SSD and can play downloadable PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games available on the PlayStation Store in Japan. The disc drive can be purchased separately, allowing you to play physical games.
Only PlayStation accounts that have their console language set to Japanese and their country/region set to Japan can use the PS5 Digital Edition in Japanese only.”
Pre-orders for the console will open on November 13 at PlayStation dealers and e-commerce sites in Japan.
