According to the company's statement about the recall on its website, the Canadian recall is part of a broader recall of affected models around the world.
The company says that if passengers and cargo are not properly placed on the boat, the front end of the jet ski could become overloaded, “causing instability, dive and possible capsize.”
The recall notice states that the risk of capsizing is even greater if water does not drain properly from inside the boat's hull.
BRP says owners of affected models will be notified by mail and asked to take their boats to the dealership for necessary repairs. The company adds that owners will not pay for parts or labor.
Once notified by BRP, owners are advised to contact their dealer to complete the recall.
The BRP says that without repairs, owners should be warned that under certain conditions water may not drain properly and could make the boat more susceptible to forward overload.
