Slipknot entered into a deal with HarborView Equity Partners that involves the sale of a majority stake in their catalog, including publishing and recording royalties.
“After 25 years in the music business, we find ourselves with a partner who is ready to sign a deal to continue what Slipknot started,” Slipknot's Michael “The Clown” Crahan said in a statement to Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news. “Only they want to go even further. Get ready. All hail The Knot.”
Earlier this year HarborView buys stake in Kelly Clarkson's catalog. They have also secured deals for the catalogs of Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Christina McVie, T-Pain, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, James Fauntleroy, George Benson, Luis Fonsi, Nelly, Wiz Khalifa, Kane Brown and many more.
“Slipknot’s music redefined heavy metal and created a global cultural phenomenon,” Sherrese Clark, founder and CEO of HarborView Equity Partners, said in a statement. “Their catalog is a testament to their influence, passion and enduring artistry in the genre. We pride ourselves on having our finger on the pulse of the culture, and through careful analysis of audience engagement, we clearly see the cultural impact of Slipknot from the 1990s to the present. The enduring and relevant evidence surrounding Slipknot remains the core of our investment thesis, and HarborView is honored to help preserve and expand the band's work for decades and generations to come.”
They didn't say how much HarborView paid for Slipknot's catalog, but Billboard disclosed Earlier this year it was valued at $120 million.
Slipknot is one of the most successful metal bands of the last 25 years. Many members have come and gone over the years, but Crahan, guitarist Mick Thomson, singer Corey Taylor and DJ/keyboardist Sid Wilson have been there since their first hit in 1999. Their latest album was released in 2022. End, bye. They performed throughout Europe over the summer, with their last appearance on July 19th at the Inkcarceration festival in Mansfield, Ohio.
They join a very long list of major artists who have sold their catalogs in recent years, including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and the Beach Boys.
