More than 14 years have passed since then Bethesda Game Studio released his monumental Elder Scrolls gem, Skyrimbut fans are still finding new ways to enjoy this popular RPG in 2025, including, apparently, working at their real jobs in Tamriel.
After what he called “the worst idea I've ever had,” YouTuber khabi147 – who is known for his funny and often completely chaotic VR videos – manages to do the impossible (or at least what you think) and do his regular 9-to-5 office job without leaving Skyrim. As he so eloquently put it, “Working from home became working in Whiterun for him.” But how did he do it? Of course, the first step was finding the perfect location.
“There are no office buildings in Skyrim,” but there are are Lots of good campsites where you can work while enjoying the atmosphere of Tamriel. Once settled into one of them, habie147 opens what looks like a browser tab—work email, Slack and all—and outlines his “main quest” while working in Skyrim: don't get fired, schedule marketing emails, engage in “random QuickBooks shenanigans,” finish PowerPoint, and “farm contact information.”
Everything goes well until a bandit arrives. “The robbery wasn’t perfect, but other than that it’s a great place to work.” For his next outdoor office, habie147 chooses… the middle of a stream with a real dragon flying overhead. “So,” he says, “I decided, okay, I need to go somewhere where nothing random can appear. Something completely off the grid. And I thought the best place for this would be a dungeon.”
He then heads to my favorite place: Blackreach. Everything goes smoothly for a while – for a couple of hours, in fact. “I collected 55 email addresses. I finished my PowerPoint presentation. I talked to my colleagues about various things. The ancient dwarves of Skyrim left behind the best meeting room in the world.” But as one might expect from the background noise, “after two hours of being there, I started to lose my mind.”
The YouTuber's next place is at the top of a mountain, where he uses console commands to change the weather for a while. Beautiful starry sky decorated with northern lights. He answers a few phone calls and concludes, “It’s working.” In other words, working in a VR game – in this case Skyrim – works, and it's pretty cool… except for the headset. “If VR headsets weren't mini Xbox 360s strapped to our faces, I think everyone would do it.”
I agree with habie147, honestly. I'd honestly love to work my 9-5 while sitting in The Bannered Mare or relaxing in Evergreen Grove, but I think the headset would be a little annoying… and maybe even make me sweat.
