- Bethesda's Matt Carofano discusses Skyrim port for Switch 2
- Speaking to Nintendo Life, he stated that the porting process was “really easy.”
- The Switch 2 port of Skyrim is now available for $59.99/£52.99.
Yes, Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim it is the gift that keeps on giving. Or rather, a game that continues to be released; this time Nintendo Switch 2.
Shadowdrop was added to the system by Bethesda, which traditionally loves shadow drops (see. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Update since the beginning of this year) Skyrim this is a game with a reputation for inevitably approaching everything. Again, it doesn't look like the Switch 2 version required that much work.
In an interview with Nintendo LifeMatt Carofano is the creative director of the Switch 2 port and lead artist Skyrim original issue – discussed the process of porting the beloved role-playing game to Nintendo's portable platform.
“It's really simple,” Carofano said of the re-release process and working with Nintendo. “We are big fans of Nintendo, we love working with them and releasing our games on their console. And because there's a new console, we're saying, “Hey, let's bring one of our favorite games back to the Switch 2 and see how we can improve it and make it the best it can be for that console.”
He continued: “We previously made a version for Switch, so we went back to that and made improvements to it. So it was a really simple development process and quite fast in terms of our timeline.”
Regarding the qualities of the port, Carofano said, “In many ways, we were just focused on taking advantage of the new equipment. Now we can use DLSS and get better resolution, better performance and a game that loads faster. The Switch 2 has Joy-Con 2 controllers that allow you to use mouse controls, so we added that.
“A lot of it is really just, 'How can we take advantage of the Switch 2?' What can he do? [how can we] give players the best version of Skyrim on this console?
Of course, we lost the republished memes on Carofano; even he sees the humor in constantly bringing this 13-year-old game back into the modern conversation.
“It's a bit of a joke at this point how often we release Skyrim,” he said, “but it's a great game. We want everyone to be able to play it to the best of their ability.”
Personally, at $59.99/£52.99, I think it's a bit pricey for a modern version. Skyrim. When it's available on other platforms (with mod support) for a much lower price, it's hard to justify using it again, even with the benefits of being a portable game. That said, if future discounts on the Switch 2 are as good as those on other systems, well, let's just say I'm not entirely immune to the charms of Tamriel's wintry north.
The best portable gaming consoles for any budget.
