Simon Boisvert has another goal to get Canadiens fans talking. In the very last episode from Matthias and the snake podcast , “The Snake” named an intriguing name: Conor Geekie, a young player of the Tampa Bay Lightning, in his opinion, deserves serious attention from Kent Hughes.
Simon Boisvert didn't pick this up out of nowhere. Geekie, a big 6-foot-4 center drafted 11th overall by the Coyotes in 2022, was traded to Tampa Bay in the trade that sent Mikhail Sergachev to Utah. Since then, he has struggled to find a place on a veteran team like the Lightning.
The Viper sees a familiar scenario: young offensive talent stuck in an organization where playing time is scarce. This is exactly the kind of gamble the Canadiens have liked to take since the arrival of Kent Hughes.
“The guy has offensive talent, but right now he's stuck in Tampa. It's not because he's not playing well … but instead of giving him eight or nine minutes a game, we're sending him to the AHL.” — Simon “Snake” Boisvert
Does Conor Ghika's profile match the Canadiens' needs at center?

The picture is clear: Conor Ghika has the talent, but the space. In a market like Tampa, where the Lightning still have their sights set on top honors, individual development often takes a backseat to quick results. The result: a 20-year-old first-round pick whose progress has been slowed simply by a lack of opportunity.
Things would be different in Montreal. The Canadiens, along with Kirby Dack and Alex Newhook, have proven that they know how to recognize young players who need a fresh start. The organization isn't afraid to bet on potential, especially when it comes to players of interesting size and offensive center profile.
And Geeky ticks a few boxes. Tall, smart and capable of scoring, he's exactly the type of player the Habs want to add to their core. Simon Boisvert would even trade a first-round or second-round pick for the prospect of acquiring one. And when he talks about prospects, he mentions Owen Beck.
Such an addition would fit perfectly into Kent Hughes' strategy of focusing on youth, but youth that is already a little more advanced. Players who still have something to prove, but who already have a solid base to quickly integrate into the Martin St. Louis structure.
Tampa won't be in a rush to sell him, but the situation is worth keeping an eye on. With tight salary management, a limited number of prospects and an aging core, the Bolts will sooner or later have to make some tough choices.
