Few could have predicted that after 14 games this season, the Penguins would have an 8-4-2 record.
This is one of the biggest surprises in the NHL right now because it's not what you expected.
We basically thought that the old Pens team, already slowing in recent years, would fall apart… and that it might open the door for the departure of Sidney Crosby, who wants to win a Stanley Cup before hanging up his skates.
But now the Penguins are winning. And Kyle Dubas admits that this is slowing down rumors about the future of the team captain.
And this is in a sense normal. This delays the recovery process a bit, but also helps quiet the noise around #87…
Pierre Lebrun spoke about this. in RDS capsule:
The happy problem for the Pittsburgh Penguins right now is that the team is winning games.
This slows down recovery a bit, but @PierreVLeBrun explains that for general manager Kyle Dubas, it also slows down the spread of rumors about Sidney Crosby's future.

Obviously, it will be a little difficult for Crosby to say that he wants to leave if his team is successful.
In the end, that's all he wants. He wants to do whatever it takes to win and he wants to play in a winning environment. And if he can do it in Pittsburgh, where he spent his entire NHL career and where he was so good, he'll do it.
On the other hand, this does not mean that he will end his career there too. There's a good chance this Penguins team starts to lose because we know things can change quickly in the NHL…and we know the team isn't very talented on paper either.
In other words, it might just be a good run now. But whether it's a success or not, the point is the same: as long as the Penguins win, Sidney Crosby isn't going anywhere.
And Kyle Dubas, without saying it openly, in a sense confirmed it.
