It wasn't just an insult USC physically impose his will on Michigan football Saturday despite the return of some previously injured players; In addition, there was a new injury.
Judge Haynes' streak of 100-yard rushing yards came to an abrupt end after he had 10 carries for 55 yards. Haynes was seen clutching his chest and at the end of the first half he went to the locker room to be assessed. He came on a few minutes into the second half, still fit, but never returned to action on Saturday.
After the game, head coach Sherron Moore said Haynes likely could have returned to action, but was held out for precautionary reasons.
“Yeah, it’s just something inside,” Moore said. “He came back and worked on it, probably could have left. Be especially careful with our student-athletes when something happens to them. So make sure they are okay. But the game plan was the same.”
Wolverines leaned on Marshall in Haynes' absence and managed 69 yards on 14 carries, a rate of 4.9 yards per attempt.
Near the end of the game, guard Bryce Underwood also limped noticeably. He stayed in the game, but the lead pass was completed by redshirt freshman Jaidyn Davis, who went 0-for-2 after the interception.
Moore said Underwood was beaten, but there was no concern.
“A little, but he's okay.”
Michigan will return home to lick its wounds after a 31-13 loss to the Trojans and host Washington on Saturday at noon ET and the game will air on Fox.
