Terence “Bud” CrawfordThis week's retirement shocked many, but not Shawn Porter … because he says TMZ Sport The boxing champion spoke of hanging up his gloves “a long time ago.”
In fact, according to Porter, Crawford began talking about ending his boxing career shortly before their 2021 fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
“I knew that he once fought Canelo [Alvarez]he felt like there was nothing left for him,” Porter said.
“This is the first time I'm saying—I've never told anyone—that this is something he's been thinking about for a long time, wanted to do for a long time, but he knew there was something else he needed to do.”
Porter, who retired after fighting in 2021, says boxers don't just quit on a whim or out of emotion… it's a “deliberate” decision that is only made when the time is right.
When it comes to boxing's Mount Rushmore… Porter said Crawford is up there with Alexander Usik in that era of sports.
“To do it, despite all this trouble, he did it.”
