Senators re-acquire Dennis Gilbert from Flyers for Max Guenette

Ottawa Senators have acquired the 29-year-old blueliner from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Max Guenette, the teams announced Monday.

Gilbert, 29, played four games for the Senators last season after being traded to the Buffalo Sabers in March. He eventually joined the Flyers via free agency, signing a one-year contract in the offseason.

The left defenseman played 111 NHL games for five teams over six seasons, scoring three goals and 17 assists for 20 points.

The Buffalo, New York native played for the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season and has yet to prepare for NHL competition.

Gilbert was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round of the 2015 draft and made his debut with the club during the 2018–19 season.

Meanwhile, Guenette has not appeared with the Senators in the NHL since the 2023-24 season. The former seventh-round draft pick in 2019 played in eight NHL games over two seasons but lost six blocks and six hits.

In 58 games with the Belleville Senators (Ottawa's AHL affiliate) last season, Guenette had nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points, plus-13.

Meanwhile, injured captain Brady Tkachuk will join the team for a seven-game road trip, according to head coach Travis Green.

Tkachuk has been sidelined since October 16 with a hand injury.
