Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has introduced legislation that would name a portion of H Street Northwest in the nation's capital the “Charlie Kirk Patriot Way,” which, if passed, would make Washington, D.C., the first city and federal jurisdiction to honor the late founder of Turning Point USA, naming the street in honor of earlier tributes in Florida.
The Charlie Kirk Patriot Path Act, introduced Friday by Senators Mike Lee (R-Utah), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) as co-sponsors, would officially name the area H Street Northwest between Connecticut Avenue and Vermont Avenue “Charlie Kirk Patriot Way.” Bill directs The District of Columbia will install four street signs with the new name at key intersections in the corridor, including Connecticut Avenue, Vermont Avenue and both sides of Northwest 16th Street.
The measure follows Scott's previous leadership in a unanimous Senate vote. passage resolution designating October 14, 2025, Kirk's 32nd birthday, as National Charlie Kirk Memorial Day. The resolution, approved Sept. 18, honors Kirk's “faith, free speech and civic engagement” and encourages schools and communities to commemorate the day with activities that promote freedom and civic dialogue.
In the new bill announcementScott described the street naming as a tribute to Kirk's lifelong commitment to encouraging debate and civic participation. He said the appointment would serve as a reminder of Kirk's commitment to “stand strong for what you believe in: peacefully, purposefully and proudly.”
Blackburn called Kirk “a patriot whose unwavering dedication to advancing American values and free speech will not be forgotten,” and Moreno reflected on Kirk's early vision to engage young Americans in politics, saying it has grown “into a movement that will change the course of our country.”
The proposed street name joins a growing number of national and local tributes to the conservative activist. In Florida, Lake County commissioners unanimously voted to rename part of Wellness Way “Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway,” marking the first time in the country for a local government to memorialize Kirk since his 9/10 attack. murder during a Utah Valley University event.
Additional awards followed throughout the country. New Florida College Announces Plans erect a statue of Kirk on campus, and Florida officials are considering designating several other memorials. Congress resolutions and proposals introduced legislators, including efforts to mint commemorative coins also sought to preserve Kirk's legacy.
