Investigate a disappearance in Suburban Mysteries
Indie game developer Coolmysterydev has announced the release of a free demo of Secrets of Suburbia on Steam. Players can finally dive into this exciting 90s horror mystery game and have a first-hand experience. The game will release in March 2026, so stay tuned.
The story takes place in the quiet town of Covenbrook, where a girl recently disappeared. Some residents believe she simply left on her own, but online chatter hints at something much more disturbing. Covenbrook has faced disappearances before, and the atmosphere in the town is beginning to change as people become concerned. Players step into the shoes of Rowan Parker, spending a typical Friday night at home with a computer, a stack of games, and a long list of online distractions, unaware of how quickly curiosity can draw them into something deeper.
Secrets of Suburbia combines a mystery story with first-person exploration. This experience is largely based on web investigations, environmental exploration and a constant sense of increasing tension. Each clue can be found at a comfortable pace, allowing players to gradually gain insight into recent events.
A detailed recreation of the Internet of 1997 plays a central role, offering hand-crafted websites, forums, games and hidden corners that reflect a digital world running on slow connections. No less important is the city itself, with houses, streets and forgotten places hiding ancient truths. Progress depends on careful deductions, the discovery of passwords and keys, and the ability to gain access to parts of the world that others would prefer to keep secret.
Players can also choose to ignore the mystery for a while and immerse themselves in Rowan's daily life. Friends are online, new games are waiting, and it seems that the evening can last forever, although something alarming is quietly growing in the background.
