Seattle Seahawks called for CFL penalty in NFL road win over Jacksonville Jaguars

Saskatchewan Roughriders fans know all too well how many players must be on the field in every dream for one team in a Canadian Football League game. Rider Nation could have told the Seattle Seahawks there were too many players on the field in a CFL game on Sunday, let alone an NFL game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars set up a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter after a touchdown to make it 20-12 as the Seahawks defense lined up 13 players. That penalty put the ball on the one-yard line, but the Jags were unable to recover it as rookie running back Bhaishul Tuten was stopped on the left side.

In the NFL, there can only be 11 players on the field from each team in a given game, while the CFL plays with 12. Seattle had two extra players on the field for the game-tying drive, but it didn't cost them as the Seahawks improved to 4-2 on the road in Duval County, Florida.

It's been over 15 years since the most infamous too many players penalty in CFL history. Memories of November 29, 2009. The riders thought they had won the 97th Gray Cup. – until this happened.

Alouetta kicker Damon Duvall lined up for a 43-yard field goal on what was thought to be the last play of the game. His kick went wide right and Jason Armstead took the ball out of the end zone and took a knee. The Saskatchewan sideline celebrated the victory with the Green and White fans, but it proved premature.

There were too many flags on the field. The play couldn't end on a defensive penalty, giving Duvall another chance from 10 yards out. He hit it from 33 yards out and Montreal won 28–27. McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
