The Scream 7 trailer released on Thursday saw Neve Campbell The latest fan-favorite girl must once again fend off her old enemy, the masked killer The Phantom. And this time, Sydney teams up with her daughter Tatum (Isabelle May).
“Hey, Sydney,” a familiar, altered voice says in the trailer. “Did you miss me? Nice little town you found – you and your pretty daughter. Reminds me of where we grew up.”
Although Sydney initially seems skeptical that the mysterious man with the altered voice poses much of a threat, the new Ghostface soon proves that they mean business. The trailer shows the caped killer attacking Sidney and Tatum in their home. This time it seems like Ghostface is targeting Tatum to torment Sydney even more, but Tatum is ready to be a “fighter” like her mom.
Directed by Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 notes Return of Campbell to the horror franchise after its absence in “Scream VI(2023) due salary dispute. While Sydney appeared in the 2022 revival/sequel “Screamthe franchise passed the torch to siblings Tara and Sam Carpenter, played by Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, respectively, and the pair were once again at the center of Scream VI.
Although the two were originally slated to return in this new installment, Barrera was dismissed from the film after she shared pro-Palestinian statements on social media regarding the Israeli-Hamas war, which led to accusations of anti-Semitism (a statement she has since made rejected). Ortega left film soon after.
Will return to Scream 7 with Campbell Scream Veterans Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley, despite the latter's fate in the 2022 film. Although this is Williamson's first time directing a Scream film, the Dawson's Creek creator has also been involved with the franchise from the very beginning, writing the screenplays for Scream (1996) under Wes Craven, Scream 2 (1997) and Scream 4 (2011). Williamson co-wrote the script for Scream 7 with Guy Busick.
The upcoming film's cast also includes Jasmine Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons and Mark Consuelos.
Scream 7 is slated for release on February 27th.
