The Saskatchewan Roughriders ruled out two of their top receivers against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as KeeSean Johnson (knee) and Donte Meyers (ankle) were sidelined for the entire training week.
Johnson had a CFL-record 86 catches for 1,159 yards and four touchdowns this season, leading the Roughriders in receptions and receptions. The 29-year-old Mountain View, California native joined the team as a free agent in 2024 after a five-year NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.
Meyers caught 65 passes for 1,056 yards and eight touchdowns on the year, leading the Roughriders in scoring. The 25-year-old Brooklyn, N.Y. native missed last week's game against the Toronto Argonauts. Saskatchewan finished first in the West Division.
The Roughriders also ruled out running back AJ Ouellette and cornerback Micah Johnson for what they called “load management.” Short yardage quarterback Tommy Stevens (knee), defensive lineman Shane Ray (neck) and defensive backs Marcus Sayles (ankle) and Roland Milligan Jr. (foot/knee) are also ruled out.
However, franchise quarterback Trevor Harris is listed as available. Jake Mayer was reported to have featured for the first team during training week..
The Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-4) will face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-8) at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday, October 17, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 pm ET. Riders beat Toronto which allowed them to take first place in the Western Division, and Blue Bombers lost to Edmontonfailing to reach the playoffs.
