Saskatchewan Roughriders rule out Dohnte Meyers, welcome back Brett Lauther against Argonauts

The Saskatchewan Roughriders ruled out wide receiver Donte Meyers with an ankle injury in Friday's game against the Toronto Argonauts.

The 25-year-old Atlanta, Georgia native had 65 catches for 1,056 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games this season, his second-most in the CFL. He currently ranks second on the Roughriders in yardage, exactly 100 yards behind teammate KeySean Johnson.

The Green and White promoted Joe Robustelli from the practice squad to replace Meyers at wide receiver. The six-foot-three, 220-pound Target is no stranger to the front-line role, having started 10 games this season. For the year, the 28-year-old caught 33 passes for 469 yards and two touchdowns.

Saskatchewan also welcomed back veteran kicker Brett Lauter, who missed last week's game against the Ottawa Redblacks with a back injury.

The Truro, N.C. native has made just 68.9 percent of his field goal attempts this season, by far his lowest average since arriving at Readerville in 2018. Campbell Fair, who allowed two goals in his CFL regular-season debut last week when he played in place of Lauter, was promoted to the practice squad.

Saskatchewan signed American kicker Michael Hughes this week, although he will not play against Toronto. Head coach Corey Mays noted that using an American kicker is an option for the Roughriders. move forward so he could still get a chance to play before the end of the season.

The Roughriders also made a change in the comeback, with Mario Alford returning to the lineup in place of Sean Bayne Jr. Alford hasn't dressed since Week 15 but has been productive this year, returning 31 punts for 357 yards and 25 kickoff returns for 697 yards and a touchdown. Bane Jr. went on the injured list for one game while healthy.

As announced on Wednesday, Saskatchewan will be without Roland Milligan Jr. he suffered a foot and knee injury against the Redblacks this week, keeping him out of practice all week. The 31-year-old Lake Wales, Fla. native has 52 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, four interceptions and one touchdown in 15 starts this season. This will be his first absence of the 2025 season.

Sheldrick Redwine will make his first career CFL start in Milligan Jr.'s spot at boundary linebacker. The 28-year-old Miami, Florida native was a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent time with six different NFL teams before joining the Roughriders this year. He dressed in a deep role for last week's win but didn't record any stats.

Marcus Sales will start at full-back despite missing training this week with a knee injury. Veteran guard Nafees Lyon, who joined the team this week as a free agent, will serve as a backup behind Sales.

Canadian wide receiver Mitch Picton returned to the active roster at the depth position, while special teams player Melik Straker was placed on the injured list for one game.

Meanwhile, The Toronto Argonauts make five changes to their starting lineup. Ahead of Friday's game, in which Jarrett Doege will start under center.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (11-4) will host the Toronto Argonauts (5-11) at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Friday, October 10, with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 pm ET. The Roughriders earned a modest victory over the Ottawa Redblacks.Bye The Argonauts were defeated by Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
