Canadian wide receiver Tommy Nield has literally made a name for himself among Saskatchewan Roughriders fans in 2025.

“Touchdown Tommy” scored the most touchdowns in recent Green and White history when he pulled A three-yard slant pass from Trevor Harris with 12 seconds left. in the Western Final to send Saskatchewan to its 112th Gray Cup. The Riders won the CFL championship in Winnipeg 25–17 against Montreal, his third ring.

“Do you remember winning games and what you've done, but the locker room, guys on this team, how everyone plays for each other, where we hang out outside the game field, friends outside the field. It's so nice to come to work every day and hanging out with the guys, so I'm thinking about building these relationships are something you take with you throughout your life,” Nield said.

The 26-year-old Guelph, Ont., native missed the first six games of the 2025 regular season with an ankle injury suffered in training camp. He made his Roughriders debut in week eight, started his first game for Saskatchewan in week nine and caught a touchdown pass from Harris during the Riders' 34–6 win over the Alouettes.

Nield played 12 games for the Roughriders. He recorded 42 receptions for 535 yards with five touchdowns as Saskatchewan finished first in the West Division with a 12–6 record. The six-foot-three, 203-pound pass catcher has a contract that expires in February, putting him in line with 43 teammates and seven more receivers who could become free agents.

There are many factors that Nield will use to determine where he will sign his next contract. The opportunity to win another Gray Cup, the opportunity to start and, perhaps most importantly, money will all play a role in his decision. His relationship with head coach Corey Mays since his time with the Toronto Argonauts has played a key role in he came to Saskatchewan last off-season.

“This is where I feel fits. This is the most fun I've had since I've been in CFL while in Saskatchewan,” Nield said. “I'm sure I'll talk to my agent and everything.” will figure it out on his own; it will take care of itself once we get there.”

Nield appears to have enjoyed his first year in Readerville and may be ready to return, especially considering the rapport he established with Harris. In the meantime, Mays and general manager Jeremy O'Day, as well as the team's front office staff, have many personnel decisions to make ahead of the 2026 CFL season.

The Riders finished first in the West Division for the first time since 2019 in 2025 and won the team's first CFL championship in 12 years. Harris was named Gray Cup MVP after going 11-5 as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 16 regular-season starts.

Saskatchewan ranked second in net offense, second in net defense and tied for third with a plus-eight turnover differential. The team's leading rusher was AJ Ouellette with 1,222 yards, the leading receiver was KeSean Johnson with 1,159 yards, and the leading tackler was AJ Allen with 91 tackles. The Roughriders finished second in attendance with an average attendance of 28,427, up 2.7 percent from the previous year.
