Saskatchewan RCMP probe reports of gunshots on Big Island Lake Cree Nation

Police in northern Saskatchewan are investigating reports of an Indigenous gunshot to see if they are linked to a fatal shooting there last week.

The Mounties say they were called to the Big Island Lake Cree Nation, about 400 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon, late Friday night.

They say they didn't find anyone with injuries and are investigating whether there are any. connection to the shooting in the early morning of December 30th.

As a result of the shootout, one person was killed and three were injured.

Security has been tight as the search continues for a pair of suspects wanted in connection with the shooting.

Jeff Sandfly, band manager for the Big Island Lake Cree Nation, said he knew the man who was killed and said it has caused stress in his community.
